Quick tips I actually use almost daily when fear gets in the way.
First, I handle a lot of fear. I was a fearless young boy. I was a professional tree climber for 9 years. I have over 100 hours as pilot in command. I have a ton of public speaking experience. I was terrified to invest 6 figures of someone else’s money on my first deal. I was scared signing up mortgages for other people’s deals. I was scared when my baby girl came and I was petrified when I quit my stable government job to do real estate full time.
I have studied and practiced a lot on the subject and through it all me and my wife have pushed through and grown personally and professionally.
3 TIPS I use and see results from.
- FEAR IS PHYSICAL
Remember that fear is a physical thing. Blood pressure, adrenaline, high unstoppable brain activity, serotonin realease, etc. These things can be handled by physical means. If your scared, anxious or fearful, straitened your posture. Just like your mood effects your posture your posture effects your mood. Open your hands, push out your chest and raise your chin.
Did you know you that for some looking up can actually stop tear ducts from flowing?
Give your self a compliment in the mirror. Doing this in the morning will bank this good feeling in your sub subconscious and refer to it any time you see yourself in a reflection. Your subconscious is smarter than you. Train it.
I bet I can tap into your subconscious. “When you eat your smarties… “
And go exercise. Even if its a 5 minute walk .
These types of activities will tell your brain it’s fine, clear the air and let you move forward with confidence.
2. WE HAVE NO REAL THREATS
We have no real threats. Fear is in our blood from our caveman ancestors to watch out for dangers and trigger adrenaline if we need to make life crucial action. In our modern world even if we are slow, lazy, dumb and broke, we have welfare, government grants, bankruptcy, public housing and other things. Nothing is really hunting us. Our caveman fear in modern times is almost completely irrelevant.
We live in a time with the least amount of threats ever.
3. EMBRACE IT
Fear is a feeling. Its ok to feel it. Everyone does and its OK! You need a good dose every now and then.
If you don’t fear a little, you aren’t growing. Too much risk can kill you. No risk at all can also kill you, just slower and secretly. You HAVE to take calculated risks. No risk and no fear is just repeated tasks. To learn and do anything new you need to feel a little uncomfortable.
If you are uncomfortable and afraid you most likely are going in the right direction.
Embrace fear for growth, control it with the physical and realize fear was past down from our ancestors that lived in a different world.
